2012 Delta River Crusin'

Delta River Cruisin' is probably the largest and most diverse automotive event that is held within a stone's throw of Memphis. The 2012 edition was held over the weekend of Spetember 21-23, and was another winner in my view.

The event is a little different than some, with an emphasis on things other than competing for trophies in a traditional "show" format. The Memphis Street Rods host the event, and since they've been an active club sine 1968, they've got a pretty good idea of how to do this sort of activity and keep it fresh. The cut-off date is 1978, so there's a lot of variety in the show field. You'll see street rods, muscle cars, classics, hot rods, and sometimes even an occasional race car. This year, the attendance hit an even 900 entries.

In lieu of trophies, there are plenty of opportunities to win drawings for cash prizes. If your luck doesn't tend to work out in drawings, there's always the casino at Sam's Town to keep you occupied, or you can attend the rock-n-roll review on Friday night, the numerous on-site eateries will keep you well feed, or you might enjoy the games of chance and skill that occur throughout the event. To my thinking, the best activity of all is to enjoy the low-stress hangin' out with other like minded car people throughout the weekend. Overall, a good time is readily available to most anyone in attendance.

So put this one on your schedule of must-do events, and check out a sampling of photos from the festivities at the Delta River Cruisin' Photo Gallery link.
