2009 Reunion Update

It's hard to imagine keeping pace with the accomplishments achieved at the 2008 Memphis Rodders Reunion after a year of increasingly grim financial news, but the 2009 Reunion turned out to be a roaring success despite the downturn in the economy . Once again, the reunion set a new attendance record as 450 enthusiastic people came out to help celebrate the racing career of local sprint car legend 'Hooker' Hood. Support from local car clubs and individuals was again strong, the display cars were outstanding, the presentation was well received, the food was good, and as the attendees steadily came through the doors, it was soon apparent that we would once again have a memorable evening on our hands.

Of course, we have to thank you, the reunion attendees for this continued sucess. We are pleased to report that the 2009 Memphis Rodders Reunion donation to the Shriner's Burn Transportation Fund matched last years record figure despite the shaky economy. Note the $16,000 check that was presented to Al Chymia Potentate Allen Smith this past Tuesday afternoon. Give yourselves a pat on the back for helping to support the reunion during difficult times. This is an effort that requires your participation, and once again you came through when it matters the most.

You bought the tickets, and then even gave more. Members of the Memphis Classic Chevy Club were once again on hand to donate $4,000 to the cause. A profound gesture that is most appreciated, and is an essential part of the event's continued success. Likewise, the Memphis Street Rods provided a $2,000 contribution, and helped assure that this year's event would again provide a significant contribution to the Shriner's Burn Transportation Fund. Bob Carlock, who belongs to both clubs, personally gave $1,000 to the effort. It's hard to acknowledge this kind of generosity enough, but believe our sincerity while we try with a genuine, heartfelt, thank you.

So we've seen another successful reunion, and we had a good time to boot. We've had lots of positive feedback from this year's reunion, and the Hood family has expressed their appreciation for the many attendees that came by to greet Hooker and share their memories with him during the evening. Please keep us on your calendar for Thursday, November 18th, 2010 when we will do this again. We're already making plans for a special program, and look forward to seeing all of you again next year.
